Sale for Black Friday Weekend

So many folks get excited at Thanksgiving because the day after is known as "Black Friday!"  On this day, our nation's retailers offer some very deep discounts in order to draw customers and create sales for the holiday season.  In recent years, the following Monday has become known as "Cyber Monday" where the online retailers offer in kind sales.  And then the tradition has grown where each weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas is decorated with deep discount promotions by retailers.  If you love the crowds, go out and shop for your bargain.  If you are like me, stay home and shop online... save gasoline, time, and the stress of battling folks in the malls.

This year, I will be offering some very deep discounts on my fine art photography which is offered online.  Everything you buy will be professionally printed with high quality inks on acid-free archival paper.  Paper selection is available from glossy to matte finish up to a 100% cotton museum grade.  All the mattes are acid-free as well and frames are custom built, according to your selection, to match the print/matte size.  With correct care, these pieces of art will last a lifetime and will add value to the decorum in your home or office.

Take a few minutes to shop where you'll find an assortment of different subjects, tones, and styles.  These will make great high quality gifts for yourself, family, or friends.  Depending on the print size, your discount will range about $12 to $165.  Choose from professional print, canvas, metal, or acrylic... there is a lot to offer.  If you choose to buy the 5x7 greeting cards, discounts will range from about $0.90 to $1.72 per card, depending on whether you buy a single card or a pack of 25.

Simply make your selections, then type in your promotion code to see your final price.  Additionally, your satisfaction is guaranteed as the work can be returned within 30 days if you are not satisfied or don't like it in print form.

You ready to shop?  CLICK HERE to get started.  Your promotion code will be: DFZKNZ

The sale begins on Friday, November 23rd and ends on Monday, November 26th at 11:59 pm.

Small Town Americana

Lately, I've stayed pretty busy with my "day" job and ongoing projects around the house. Unfortunately though, because of this, I've not had much time to pick up my camera and shoot.  Now last week, I did take a couple hours to travel to a nearby town and shoot the old train depot.  I've wanted to do that for awhile but, when the light was right, I was either busy or the weather wasn't friendly.  Let me share a couple shots that I got.  These are from Bristow, Oklahoma.  It's about 20 miles away and Bristow has a population of about 5000.  There are really cool old buildings there.

As you can see, the bottom image was processed a bit differently.  I really like the blue vintage look.  What do you think?  These and others are available at my Online Gallery where you can examine more closely and browse further.  All comments are welcome.

Asian Art

I was sitting here browsing some of the photos that I shot while in Japan a few years back when I came across three that really are dear to me.  I'd like to share those with you.

A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima

Ladies in Kimono with Vintage Look

Torii at Miyajima
The image with the two Japanese ladies was shot in Kyoto and I find their beauty to be stunning.  I enhanced the photo to give it a vintage look which is perfect for a greeting card.

A-Bomb dome is world famous and to visit this place as well as the museum is a sobering experience.  I've been there twice and have been moved each time.

The torii is located at Miyajima Island which is near Hiroshima.  It has been said that this specific torii is the most photographed structure in Japan.  It is gorgeous!  I softened the focus slightly and blended the colors to give it the look of a painting.  Some may like that and some may not... but it suits me very well.

All comments are welcome.  You are welcome to view my online gallery by Clicking here.  A new window will open so you won't lose your spot on my blog.  Enjoy!

Toronto

Good morning!

I was browsing through some less recent photos and came across this image that I shot during a family vacation to Toronto.  It was taken from the observation platform of the CN Tower and shows an aerial view of the central business district with the shadow of the CN Tower.  Pretty cool, huh?

This post is really short but I wanted to share my find.  If you haven't visited Toronto, you really should.  It's a city with lots of diversity yet everyone seems to blend well.

Branson, Missouri, USA

A couple weeks back, my wife and I went to the resort area of Branson to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary.  It's such a beautiful area except for the gaudy billboards that litter the highways!  Still though, it was a fun weekend away where we enjoyed some really great food and professional shows.

When we go out to do touristy things, I seldom spend much time shooting serious photography but I did take my equipment along just in case.  Didn't have a chance to shoot a lot but did manage to capture a few images while my wife shopped in the "girly" stores. <LOL>  I hope you enjoy.

Mission San Xavier del Bac

If you love black and white images as well as Spanish architecture, you'll certainly enjoy this.  The post is short but the image is pretty cool... I think you'll agree.

More from the Rails

By now, it may seem that I have this fetish for railroad equipment?  Part of my journey, during a trip to Wyoming, involved photographing railway art.  As a lover of western art and the western way of life, it fascinates me and brings many "what if" thoughts to mind.

What if.... the railroads had not been so aggressively built during the late 19th century?  I think that our country would be different today.  Because of the early railroad expansion, our country benefited by acquiring so much wealth due to precious metal finds and the ability to move beef and produce to the east.  When I look at the present day railway activity, it stimulates my mind to imagine how much work, sacrifice, and dedication that our ancestors had.

Let me share another set of railway photos, both vintage and modern day, with you.  These images are presented in black and white or a split tone finish to enhance the vintage mood.  I hope you like....

Rail Coupler

These photos were shot at Laramie, Wyoming which has a huge amount of rail traffic and railroad history.  The community is also developing a museum which includes a vintage train that sits on static display.  If you're a rail lover... or even simply a lover of the "west" there is something to capture your attention.

This work and others are posted in my online gallery.  I hope you'll visit, browse, and shop from what I've created.  Click here to access the transportation gallery, where my rail exhibits await you.  I hope that you'll leave your comments with each photo that you view.

If you visit Laramie, be sure to visit the historic railroad depot.  It's a very pleasant place to see with and share with your family.

Tulsa Union Depot

Can you appreciate that I'm working hard to keep up here? <LOL>

A few months back, I went on a shoot to the old Tulsa Union Station.  It's a grand and beautiful old art deco building that brings so much beauty and history to NE Oklahoma.  During the 1920's and 1930's when Tulsa was known as the world's "Oil Capital" construction of beautiful architecture with art deco flourished and exists today as a tribute to her rich beauty.  Back to the former rail station......

The Union Station was completed in 1931 and remained in use till 1967 when it closed due to a decline in rail travel.  The building remained vacant for a number of years till it was rehabilitated and eventually placed in use as the current Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.  What a perfect successor occupant!  She's still grand and respected.  I hope you enjoy these photos.

Vintage Locomotive

I love shooting old things with historical value because they have so much more character than shiny and new!  I was browsing through my gallery and came across one of my most favorite photos... let me share it with you but first a little history....

The Meteor 4500 presently sits in SW Tulsa at the new Route 66 Village Theme Park.  Previously, it was rusting away until a group of railroad enthusiasts volunteered to restore her and create a place for all to enjoy.

The Meteor 4500 has an Oklahoma history... she was built for Frisco in 1942 and transported passengers until it was converted to diesel in 1948.  After the conversion, it served as a freight locomotive until retirement in 1954 when it was donated to the City of Tulsa.  During passenger service she pulled cars daily between Oklahoma City and St. Louis with stops in Tulsa.  Many American servicemen traveled on this train to and from war.

It is a beautiful train and worth seeing during a Tulsa visit.

Feed and Grain Elevators

I want to share photos of these grain and feed elevators that I made.  Photographs were taken in Wyoming... I told you before that I managed to collect quite a few good and interesting images there. :)

Finds in the Junk Yard

Still posting images from Wyoming as I managed to capture a lot of very good photos there.  During our trip, I visited a small town near the Wyoming - Nebraska state line called Pine Bluffs.  In that town, is a small junk yard that contains mostly gasoline station memorabilia.  The owner was very friendly and gracious to me... he seemed quite content to allow me in to shoot photos.

As a boy, we had lots of fun rummaging through people's junk so this visit brought back a lot of youthful memories.  I hope it'll do the same for you.  Please respect that these images are my intellectual property and provided protection from copyright infringements.  If you desire to use them in some way, please contact me.

From Cheyenne

A couple weeks' back, we traveled to Cheyenne, Wyoming where I devoted a lot of my time shooting the western beauty of that area.  I came home with a lot of  RAW images to process and I'll complete that before long BUT I want to share some of what I captured.

This and more like it is available at my online gallery.  I hope you like it.

Found and Rescued

I'm just a simple person with a decent heart... not one who devotes my life or life's savings to saving a poor malnourished animal... I just care about welfare for animals even though I maintain my position as the master.

You're probably wondering what I'm going with this so anyway, about a month back, I kept hearing a loud cat's meow that came from the vicinity of my detached workshop.  When I'd approach the animal would become silent so I wasn't sure what was going on.  After a few days of this, I was unloading some equipment in my workshop and suddenly, there was this quivering "meow" from the corner.  I then saw a malnourished and filthy kitten who was about four weeks old.  It has the same markings as an adult stray who had been coming around but hadn't made her presence in a few days.  I realized this kitten had been abandoned (something must have happened to Momma) and I searched for others but this was the only one.  I brought it into our home where my spouse and I cleaned it up and began feeding him.

This kitten was not welcome by our adult cat so we realized we must find a good home and luckily, we did find one with a young woman who loves cats and was happy to take in a new one.  Before sending the kitten off, I took some time to photograph him and managed to capture two really nice images that I want to share.

Stray Kitten with Tennis Ball

Stray Kitten Portrait B/W

Having this kitten for those two weeks was a lot of fun and I'm glad that I was able to find him before he perished.  The photo shoot was a blast as I simply threw out a ball for the cat to play with while I composed and shot images.  Your comments are always welcome!

Detroit Beauty

I absolutely love the style of the 1957 Chevrolet and want to share an image that I recently shot during the 2012 Route 66 Blowout in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.  Some digital manipulation was achieved by changing the tone to a primary gold color.  Pretty awesome, huh?

Contemporary Artwork

Time flies by so quickly.  As I logged on here, I suddenly realized that it's been two weeks since my last post.  So much for my personal commitment to stay on top of things. <LOL>

Today, I'm going to comment on my style and how, at times, I create something a bit different.  My tastes are primarily conservative and traditional which you notice when you view my galleries.  But at times, I'll come across a situation where the lighting is different or there are unique reflections that cause me to step out of my usual comfort zone.  The results sometime thrill me and then other times, I concede that it's not for me but others may love it.  Having said that, I do sometimes create contemporary abstracts and offer them for purchase or simply viewing.  Please do leave feedback when you see these.  I'm happy to learn what you think.

During the past couple weeks, I've put together a few contemporary pieces that have resulted in others saying "wow."  Let me share them here.

Cactus Blooms

I want to share something that I came across and photographed recently.  We have a cactus at the back of our property and I noticed they were blooming these most incredibly vivid yellow flowers.  Cactus blooms don't last very long so if you're going to shoot them, you'd better not put it off another day.

As I approached the cactus with camera, tripod, and light meter, I noticed a bee who was rapidly raking the plant for pollen.  She noticed me but didn't flee... rather, she took time out to watch me.  She was really a rather nice model for this shoot.  I hope you enjoy the photos.

Contemporary Abstract

Good morning.  My photography interests are primarily with architectural subjects but I'm always on the look out for unique shapes, color, and light.  This image caught my eye so yesterday, I took time out to shoot and want to share it.

Contemporary Abstract with Colors
The subject is a molded reflector and was shot very close up with an ultra wide angle lens.  The colors are drawn in from the surrounding area... trees, grass, rocks, and sky.  I decided to do some modest digital manipulations to bring out and spread the colors around.  I really like the effects and think it's a beautiful piece of work that would look good in the home or office.  What do you think?

Still Excited!

Each day, it seems like something around the house calls out for me to photograph it.... or someone comes by with a new insect.  Wow, isn't springtime great?  So with all these great opportunities, I'm happy and excited to capture some new images.

Deadly with beautiful form

I have had a lot of fun with this black widow.  She has such a beautiful shape when viewed in silhouette.  I hope you like it.

Like I said earlier, springtime brings many opportunities to me.  I was cutting the grass and had to stop long enough to shoot this.  What do you think?
